Join us as Thomas DeFisher takes center stage at historic Gates Hall, performing Die schöne Müllerin. Built in 1825, the hall provides a perfect ambiance for this romantic 1823 story of a young miller, a wandering stream, and unrequited love.
Die schöne Müllerin is a cycle of twenty songs composed by Austrian composer Franz Schubert with poems selected from German poet Wilhelm Müller. The romantic story follows a young miller who befriends a brook which leads him to a mill. He falls madly in love with the miller’s beautiful daughter, but his love is found to be unrequited as she eventually rejects him in favor of a hunter. In despair, the young miller wades into the brook that has been his companion throughout the cycle and drowns himself.
Thomas DeFisher is a graduate of the Williamson Central School District and a rising junior at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in Wheaton, IL. His performance is not to be missed!
